The colonnade draws us in.

Narrow as a home hallway, the body is contained, sheltered, and welcomed. Arms reach out to each side, hands touch column and wall at once, waist bends and bridges this span, an upright stand nestles in "T" shaped column, foot fits the paving stone size.

Playing body as a measuring tool in strides, spans, breadths, and girths of limbs, members, digits. This interpretation of distance and scale is as old as humans.   It can be a dance.

Proportion fascinates us, the harmony of parts to whole. Finding the secret ratio, golden section, and fractal formula. We examine our human shape to find clues to the magic mathematics ordering the natural world. Then draw lines, make walls, and demarcate territory.

Whose body is being measured, what becomes a standard, a basic unit and for whom, to what end?

In classical Greek architecture male, female and young maiden’s bodies inspired the column order, and their proportions and diameter. And the intercolumniation, the distance between columns.

A rhythm of solid and void, shade and light, hidden and exposed, is one jump away.

The colonnade draws us in.
